| And here's the bridge. |
You know, for a ship with the capacity to carry
1000 men, the facilities seem rather small. |
| Well, The Inflict could be seen as two
ships, one inside the other. |
Two? What, with the detachable saucer section? |
| No, there's facilites
for the permanent crew, and more facilities for any loaded forces, or
for cargoes, or colonists, or whatever temporary mission is assigned. |
There's a separate bridge
for the staff officer of any forces embarked, trauma centers next to the
shuttle bays, |
| platoon-grade transporters,
3 mess halls, and configurable bays for either bulk matter, fluids, Fleet
Marines or highly sensitive materials. |
Something about these
systems, though... |
| Sir? |
There are several stations
with Maneuvering capability, but they're all secondary. There's no
real 'Helm' or 'Nav' on this bridge. |
| Yeah,
they set that up after they installed the Navigator. |
You
know, that's the second time someone used that verb. It seems an
odd verb to use for a Starfleet Officer. |
| Does
it make more sense if the officer is actually is a Medusan? |
Oh.
Is this...? |
| Medusan Survey Service Commander Eurayle, Darlin.' I'm on loan to Starfleet, and I'm your Navigator. | Because
of your innate ability to sense absolute direction. |
| No,
because of my soft-shoe routine, naturally. |
So,
you're 'installed' somewhere aboard? And all Navigation functions
are routed to your, uh, suite? |
| Yeah,
Helm and Nav run from my stateroom, and intercoms like this one running
through the ship. But don't worry, there's no way anyone can get in here, and no cameras. |
And
you're okay, being all alone in there? |
Bubelah,
you don't know much about Medusans. We have 15 genders. I have
10 spouses, 33 children, 83 in-laws, and 654 people on my mailing list for
Volcano Day. Right now, my children are grown, my parents are crotchety,
and I was REAL tired of the color of the Anza Brush in the foyer. Now I have 3 rooms to myself, no chance on interruption, and the only one who votes for what to watch is Me. If you even threaten to send me home on leave, I'll drive this ship through a star. |
| I'll,
uh, assume you're joking, but I take your message. Nice meeting you, Commander, now I should be finishing my tour. |
I was
told that the Medical department was aboard. Let's go see Sickbay. |
| This
way, sir. |
Um...on
this deck, sir, there's something you should know about The Inflict... |
| I am
sure I have a lot to learn about her...what th'? |
I raise
my hand in this manner to perform a traditional function. |
| POIT! |
I have
your nose. Logic demands that you now speak in a squeaky nasal voice. |
| Vrooooooosh!
Bakow! Bakow! Hurry up, Bones! Keep to my wing! |
Dammit Jim, I'm
a Flight Surgeon, not a wing man! |
| James Tone-Deaf Kirk,
you fail to maintain proper communications. |
Come back here and say 'Roger
That!' Ten four, good buddy!
That is NOT correct and you are aware of this!
| I'm a reasonable man,
Fisher. I know that wasn't what it looked like it was. |
Well, Captain, The Inflict
has been involved in quite a few rescues, including some multi-species facilities. |
| Somewhere along the line,
we seem to have picked up three aliens that took a shine to Starfleet, esp.
certain characters in history. They're described in the ship's log
going back quite a ways. |
They roam the ship, but
often run through this deck. No one knows why. They've never been able to get rid of them, but no one's tried REAL hard. They seem pretty harmless. |
| Stowaways. On a
Fleet vessel? Great. Next you'll be telling me there's ghosts. |
Ghosts, no. Just one,
sir. |
