Okay, before we go in, i wish to discuss marching order. I want a fighter on point. A thief or dwarf in second position, to check for traps and unsafe conditions. A wizard just back of them, to be Merlin-On-The-Spot for any magic threats. The Healer belongs in the party center, with the leader, me, and a reserve of at least one fighter. The NPC's carrying treasure stick with me and the Healer. . An elf or anyone else with good night-vision between the party center and the drag position. A ranger in back, to avoid nasty surprises. Monks stay to the rear, mostly, to delay any sneak attack until the main party can reverse itself and be brought to bear on the adversary. If there's a second mage, the one in front concentrates on offensive spells, the second sticks to just behind the center, prepares defensive spells. Now, what do we have?

What? Just fighters? Do you think we can forge ahead by might of arms alone? I thought we were going to have a more balanced party? What about you? Weren't you going to be a thief?

Oh, yeah. Creep thru the dark feeling to see if there's a trap before the guy with the torch catches up? Then WHAM! your hands are tasty meat snacks for the dungeon dwellers, and you can only hope you blind them with arterial spurting before you pass out and DIE! No, thank you.

Well, alright, then. I thought YOU were going to be a cleric?

Pfft. No weapons, not really, just blunt instruments? Trying to convince a sky-beast that your bleeding friend doesn't deserve to die and join HIS particular sky-beast today, he's got too much mayhem yet to accomplish? Tithes!? Ooooh, yeah.

Hmm. Weren't you rolling up a monk?

Well...i got to wondering....about that....a monk? Martial arts? Oriental philosophy and ass-kicking in Feudal Britain?

It's ony a feudal setting, but more importantly it's a fantasy setting. Anything can happen. You want to be Robin Hood, done. You want to be Qwai Chang Cain, done. Conan, Tarzan, Gengis Khan, Caesar, done and done.

Spock?

No. It isn't done.

Then I'll be a fighter. Monks don't get no armor.

Urrrrrr. Okay. Why aren't you a mage?

Ever read THE MALLEUS MALEFICARUM? Do you know what the clerics DO to witches and warlocks?

Nothing. We don't have a cleric!

Fine, let's just get on with it.

Everyone have a sack for treasure? Let's go.

About 5 'Encounters' later....

Okay, we need to recruit

A Healer!

Well, yes, and someone to check for traps...

And a Healer!

...and someone that knows the difference between flammable and inflammable...

And a Healer!

...and someone to carry the gold

... that we're going to spend on a Healer.
